Welcome To My Home. Take a virtual tour and read below.
My plan for this page is to give a small overview of the history of our home. I'll give a quick one now, and hopefully in the near future get a better one prepared. Seth Thayer came from Connecticut to Ashtabula in the late 1700's. He had a son named Calvin who was a Great Lakes Ships Captain. Calvin married a woman named Mary and settled down to farm. Our home was built sometime around 1848 by Calvin and Mary. It is said to be the second brick residence in Ashtabula County. The bricks for the house were made from the hill in our back yard. They were raising their family when Calvin, out hunting, was shot in the leg when his rifle misfired. The leg became infected and was amputated. Unfortunately, the infection led to sepsis and he died three weeks later. Martin, one of Calvin and Mary's sons, began to raise his family here, but sold the home and moved to a farm further away in the same city. For years the hilly road out front of our house was known as Thayer Hill and the hill out back was known as goat hill. A popular road in the area is also named after the Thayer family. The house exchanged hands many times, and in recent years has been used as an apartment building. We have turned it back into a single family home, with our shop in the back area, and feel nothing but warm spirits dwelling here. Our friend was a bit scared at our Halloween party this year, however, when she passed by a closet with a lock on it, and the door swung open as she walked by. I'll update soon with some pictures, if I can get my phone to take some decent ones. The ones I took and tried to upload had strange lines through them. Argh!!!
